    Session A:            Corporate Diversity

    Dr. Michelle “Mikki” Hebl, an applied social psychologist with Rice University, will present her research on the “New Face of Discrimination in the Workplace” sometimes referred to as micro-inquities.

     

    Linda Wallace, a modern-day story teller, is the author of “The Cultural Coach”, an online column that provides practical tips for dealing with uncomfortable life situations such as sexual harassment, bigotry, and racism. She will help participants understand how their own culture lens helps shape their interaction with others.

     

    Session B:            Professional Development

     

    Dr. Kim Kehoe, a renowned professor with Rice University, will examine key leadership skills required for success in both personal and professional lives.

     

    Dr. Debbie Chiu, Global Director of Research and Development, Dow Chemical, will examine 4 key steps of employee career development - Get Ready, Seek Feedback, Define and Document a Plan, and Implement a Plan.  She will discuss how these steps apply or look different depending on the various stages of a person’s career - New to Job, Experienced on Current Job, or Preparing for Job / Career Change.

     

    Session C:            Business Opportunities in the Global Market Place

     

    1.      Moderator:        Helen Cavazos,     VP Human Resource and Diversity, METRO

    Speakers:    Pat Thompson,      President, NSC Companies  

               Dr. Anthea Chang,       Professor, Rice University

    This panel session will examine how and when to market yourself to advance your

    career or to grow your business.

     

    2.      Moderator:        Gilda Ramirez, Director Small Business Development, Port of Houston

    Speakers:    John Sequeira,      Senior Diversity Consultant, Royal Dutch Shell

               Wendy Johnson,    VP Human Resources, United Way

               Kristy Montes        U.S. Customs and Border Protection

    This panel session will look at career and business opportunities in today’s economy

    and the global marketplace.
